Job Description

The Delaware Valley Trusts located in Horsham, Pennsylvania has an exciting opportunity for a seasoned risk control professional whose primary role will be to assist public entity risk pool members with preventing occupational injuries, illnesses as well as property and liability losses through safety, health, and risk management consultation services.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Serves as lead risk control consultant for an assigned group of Trust member entities;
  • Performs risk assessments of applicants to determine suitability for membership;
  • Performs audits and inspections at member locations. Develops reports of findings and corrective action recommendations for members;
  • Effectively delivers loss control trainings on topics including certified workplace safety committee, confined space entry, hazardous energy control, infection control, temporary traffic control and flagging, etc.;
  • Develops accident and illness prevention resources such as model policies, safety procedures, toolbox talks and newsletter articles;
  • Assists the claims department with incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action planning;
  • Works effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines and manage several different tasks concurrently;
  • Manages contractors providing industrial hygiene, training and property appraisal services;
  • Stays informed on industry best practices and trends. Participates in professional associations as well as informal peer networking and conferences;
  • Works with accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Maintains privacy of confidential records, correspondence and/or files;
  • Effectively communicates in writing and verbally to convey information in a clear manner consistent with job functions;
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Trust administration, co-workers, other departments, members, vendors, etc;
  • Responds promptly to member and prospective member inquiries;
  • Carries out job functions without posing a health or safety threat to self or others;
  • Maintains acceptable attendance standards; and
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Physical Demands of Job

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working;
  • Frequent hand, finger and arm use and excellent eye-hand coordination;
  • Occasionally perform activities involving walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and climbing stairs and playground equipment;
  • Occasionally stand for extended periods of time;
  • To work outside with exposure to sun, dirt, dust, pollen, mud, noise, and changes in weather, temperature and conditions including humidity and precipitation;
  • Ability to hear clearly and speak intelligibly;
  • Ability to see and perform visual activities such as close-up paperwork, using a display monitor, reading, and writing;
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.; and
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, fire protection or related field and five years of related experience;
  • ARM, CSP, CIH, CFPS, CPSI or CPEA credentials preferred;
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position and required work;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) credential;
  • Ability to qualify as a Pennsylvania Accident and Illness Prevention Service Provider;
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, property protection and liability risk control practices (OSHA, NFPA, IBC, etc.);
  • Ability to effectively educate adult learners in technical subjects and make effective/interesting presentations in front of large groups;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively cultivate relationships with Trust staff, current and prospective members, vendors, training partners, etc.;
  • Strong ability to organize, plan and prioritize workload involving multiple projects at one time;
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences;
  • Strong critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; and
  • Use of personal vehicle is required to visit offsite locations. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and auto insurance at all times.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay range is $98,500 - $105,000 commensurate with education, certification and experience.
