Job Description

Gpac is seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement operations for a client company in Northern Indiana. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the feed or pet food industry and a thorough understanding of packaging materials and suppliers. This role involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of quality materials and products.

Key Responsibilities:

Procurement Strategy: Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with company objectives and ensure a consistent supply of materials and products.
Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with suppliers. Negotiate contracts and terms to secure the best possible pricing and quality.
Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production and sales teams to forecast needs and ensure optimal stock levels.
Cost Management: Analyze market trends and supplier pricing to identify cost-saving opportunities. Implement cost control measures without compromising on quality.
Quality Assurance: Ensure that all purchased materials and products meet company quality standards and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular supplier audits and quality checks.
Packaging Knowledge: Source and manage packaging materials, ensuring they meet the specific requirements of the feed or pet food products. Stay updated on the latest packaging innovations and regulations.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Maintain accurate procurement records and generate reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, production, quality assurance, and marketing teams to align procurement activities with product development and business goals.
Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate them.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies related to procurement and supplier management.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager or in a similar role within the feed or pet food industry.
Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
Experience with packaging materials and suppliers.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in procurement software and tools.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certification such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) is desirable.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with sustainable and eco-friendly packaging solutions.
Knowledge of global supply chain management and international trade regulations.
Experience in feed purchasing.
Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory management software.
