Legal Investigator
Marin County - Remote
Compensation: $25-27/ hour
Job Summary:
- Conduct detailed interviews with new clients with significant data entry. Review client records and obtain details for case files.
- Research job sites, products, and defendants.
- Manage case distribution, tracking, and organization
- Write memoranda based on interviews and summarize relevant documents.
- Review depositions for corroboration and use in future interviews.
- Perform internet research and locate potential witnesses.
- Interview co-workers for witness viability and prepare related memoranda and declarations.
- Draft and send letters/emails to potential witnesses and request client pictures to aid recall.
- Code defendant identification for database entry and assist in updating work history based on new information.
- Provide service recommendations and case updates to attorneys and partners.
- Utilize databases such as Lexis/Nexis, BKW, Summation, SIS, MPID, and GroupWise.
- Record time spent on tasks in time-tracking software.
- Maintain professional communication with clients and co-workers.
- Conduct investigative tasks with confidentiality and legal compliance.
Essential Functions:
- Understand complex legal liability issues
- Review and extract relevant information from documents and interviews.
- Conduct professional interviews and perform detailed research.
- Work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Possess strong writing skills for clear interview memoranda.
- Communicate effectively and maintain professional relationships.
- Manage emotional discussions with clients and witnesses.
- Adapt quickly to changes and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Conduct cold calls and interviews confidently.
- Use databases and documents for educational purposes in case workups.
- Knowledge, Skill, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 3-5 years of experience in research, investigations, and interviewing
- Typing speed of 40 wpm.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to learn new procedures quickly and thoroughly.
- Confidence in cold calling and discussing complex topics.
- Valid CA driver’s license with clean DMV record.
- Familiarity with WordPerfect, Excel, and Adobe preferred.
- Fluent bilingual skills in English and Spanish required.
