Job Description

Basic Function

Responsible for finished product quality control and supporting specification compliance testing. Train junior laboratory technicians in quality control and specification compliance testing. Organize, analyze, and communicate test data to others. Manage troubleshooting testing, material, or production problems.

Job Duties

  • Support and assist with product quality control and oversee specification compliance testing and coordinate outside testing services.
  • Acts as a team lead, providing subject matter guidance to more junior team members.
  • Produces and tests lab-prepared samples aimed at product development, research & development, corporate directives, etc.
  • Gathers and analyzes experimental results and communicates with senior leadership on reports.
  • Responsible for all laboratory calibration and standardization requirements and associated documentation utilized. 
  • Initiates and assumes responsibility for assigned area’s proficiency sample testing.
  • Provide solutions and troubleshooting techniques regarding production or any other issues affecting finished product quality with assistance from junior staff.
  • Troubleshoots problems with testing, test methods, or test equipment and report findings to senior leadership.
  • May conduct special assignments as necessary to administer the affairs of the assigned area’s technical group with assistance from leadership as needed depending on the location.
  • Designs, conducts and communicates the results from experiments aimed at advancing the assigned area’s corporate strategy.
  • Executes required assigned area’s Health Safety & Environmental programs and initiatives as required
  • Trains lower-level laboratory personnel and takes the lead in projects if needed.

May include some or all of the following:

  • Executes HAC’s plan for AMRL accreditation under minimum supervision
  • Collects and distributes samples to customers and others
  • Conducts and assumes responsibility for assigned area’s proficiency sample testing

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of three to five years of related material testing experience is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a High School Diploma is required.

 

Preferred Education Level:

A Bachelor's Degree in natural sciences, engineering, or another applicable field is preferred

Required Skills

Intermediate-level algebra and proficiency with spreadsheet and word-processing software applications. Good mechanical ability and understanding of operational principles of assigned area’s laboratory testing instruments. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication. Ability to complete all required classroom and CBT training. Ability to achieve high proficiency scores. May require good supervisory skills depending on location. Basic reading and writing skills, and ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver’s license and proof of insurance required, and perceiving color difference. Job conditions may require wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
