Practices medicine within the scope of authority and privileges granted by Moffitt Cancer Center. Provides patient care under the auspices of Moffitt Medical Group, and serves as member of the academic medical enterprise; advancing the institutional mission of contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer. The position may span the clinical and research enterprise, and supports patient care, research, and education.
Work closely with medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, palliative care physicians, APPs and nurses as part of a patient care team. Also works closely with radiation oncology medical physicists, dosimetrists and radiation therapists to plan and deliver radiotherapy.
Moffitt Cancer Center is searching for an academic radiation oncologist to join a high- volume GI practice with close collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues in surgical oncology, medical oncology, interventional radiology, gastroenterology, pathology, radiology, supportive care medicine, mathematical modeling, and machine learning. The candidate would provide patient care under the auspices of the Moffitt Medical Group and serve as a member of the academic medical enterprise, advancing the institutional mission of contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer. The position spans the clinical and research enterprise, and supports patient care, research, and education.The candidate would be joining a Professor of RO who has been on staff for 16 years and an Associate Professor who has been on staff for 10 years.
The candidate would work closely with a GI disease site team (specialized physicists and dosimetrists) to cover advanced radiation oncology techniques such as SBRT, IMRT, adaptive treatments (MRI linac and Ethos), and protons in the future when the new center opens in the next 2 years. The scope of practice would include treating patients with esophagus, gastric, pancreas, bile duct, liver, colon, rectal, anal, and neuroendocrine tumors. There is a dedicated brachytherapist on staff in the Radiation Oncology department so there would be no expectation to deliver such treatment.
The position is a full-time clinical academician at Moffitt Cancer Center with assignment to the GI program within the Radiation Oncology (RO) Department.The position requires a variety of clinical and technical skills including coordination, work up, diagnosis, treatment, management and follow up of GI oncology patients. In our multidisciplinary program, there are currently 5 specialty site specific tumor boards that the candidate would be expected to attend in conjunction with the other two faculty. The collaborating GI Oncology department/program is structured with six disease sites and includes 13 surgical oncologists, 7 medical oncologists and 6 endoscopists.The GI program also closely collaborates with colleagues in the Senior Adult Oncology program and with multidisciplinary team members at the ambulatory clinics that are in the vicinity of the main campus location. Inpatient duties are infrequent and restricted to on call or occasional consults. The candidate is also expected to support research projects in progress from other faculty and the national cooperative group effort and opportunities exist for additional research assignment. Teaching opportunities include lectures, discussion, practical experience and direct supervision of students. Moffitt has 2-3 RO residents per year, 2 physics residents in addition to rotating medical students/fellows.
