About the Role

The Brookline Center seeks an enterprising, growth-minded Director of Individual Giving & Donor Engagement who brings positivity, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to the critical work of advancing philanthropy and strengthening donor relationships.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and as a member of the Center Leadership Group, the Director will oversee individual giving, fundraising events, and donor engagement. This role requires a dynamic, strategic leader who can inspire philanthropy, is comfortable reaching out to individuals, and enjoys actively engaging with new and existing donors to foster lasting connections. The Director’s work will support the development and expansion of the Center’s innovative programs, driving the creation of a more equitable and effective mental healthcare system that benefits individuals and communities statewide.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create and execute a comprehensive, strategic year-round fundraising plan focused on building a robust and sustainable individual giving program.
  • Identify and build relationships with individual donors through regular communication, including email and phone calls, in-person meetings, and donor education.
  • Develop and carry out strategies for mid-level donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade, including annual, recurring, donor-advised fund, legacy, and non-cash asset giving.
  • Create engaging donor events and stewardship opportunities to deepen relationships and encourage continued support.
  • Prepare proposals for gift solicitation and impact reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of all donor interactions and conduct prospect research.
  • Partner with board and development committee members, senior leadership, and program staff to align fundraising strategies with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with teammates to integrate individual giving across fundraising and communications efforts.
  • Prepare reports and maintain dashboards on fundraising progress, donor engagement, and other key metrics for CDO, CEO, board of directors, and development committee.
  • Work with the development operations specialist to continuously improve data systems and workflows for gift tracking, reporting, and acknowledgment.
  • Manage activities of the Edna Stein Leadership Giving Society and Legacy Society.

Experience and Qualifications

  • At least six years of fundraising/development experience, with demonstrated leadership in individual giving or annual fund programs.
  • Proven ability to create and execute effective fundraising strategies and systems for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors.
  • Track record of securing five-, and six-figure philanthropic gifts from individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and leadership skills, with an ability to engage and inspire a variety of stakeholders through various channels.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both in speech and writing.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines while maintaining a personal commitment to excellence.
  • A motivated self-starter who demonstrates collaboration, flexibility, and collegiality.
  • Proficiency with fundraising software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to upholding and sharing fundraising ethics, principles, and best practices.
  • Passion for The Brookline Center’s mission and mental health.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

Work Environment

Hybrid work environment with days onsite at our Brookline office and days remote.
