Job Description

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the President & CEO (P/CEO), the Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting, and reporting activities. The Controller will be involved in supporting presentations to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee and will work closely with management leadership teams. The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a team of three staff members. The Controller will ensure that the agency has the systems and procedures in place to support fiscal responsibility, effective program implementation, and conduct clean audits. The Controller will work closely with program leaders and staff regarding finance education, accounting procedures, and how the finance department can support program operations. In addition, the Controller works as a member of the Choice in Aging (CiA) team providing health and social services to frail elders and adults with disabilities to meet CiA’s mission to create opportunities where people can learn, grow and age independently with dignity in community.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Manage the Financial Services Department to ensure integrity of accounting functions in the areas including but not limited to cash collections, grants, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, budget preparation and monthly and year-end close.

2. Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of CiA’s financial status.

3. Develop, update, maintain policies and procedures for all accounting functions and systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

4. Develop the overall agency budget working with the program management staff and Human Resources for presentation to the Finance Committee and/or the Board of Directors.

5. Oversee all financial, programs, and grant accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; distribute financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.

6. Manage billing and collections for all services, including government contracts, managed care, Medi-Cal, other grantors and payers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business and/or accounting or equivalent experience. CPA experience/Master’s degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Four years of experience supervising operations of an accounting department with progressive responsibility, preferably in non-profit organizations.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP Fund accounting, OMB Non-Profit Cost Principles (A-122) and Audits (A-133).
  • Experience in collections with government agencies.
  • Knowledge of various accounting software. Expert in MS Office suite products.

Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Monday-Friday (Closed on all major holidays)

Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $140,000.00
